There remains some debate as to the meaning and function of a family office, however it is generally understood to be an entity with some degree of legal separation from the family that assists the family when it comes to running their investments.
There are perhaps as many as 11,000 family offices worldwide – with over 2,000 in Europe as well as a similar number in the US – and this number is expected to increase in the future as family wealth management becomes an increasingly complex field.
Whilst it is perhaps less common than in the past for a family to require assistance in managing their estate holdings in the manner that gave rise to the traditional family office; it has become increasingly common for the financial interests and holdings of a family to be complex and multi-national affair, as both family members and their interests span borders and even continents.
With experience gathered over many years in exactly this field, Oury Clark can provide an invaluable level of insight into the needs and requirements of our clients as we assist them in setting up family offices to manage their affairs.
Indeed the breadth and depth of the services provided by a family office vary as widely as do the families they represent, as each is tailored to the specific requirements and interests of the individuals involved. We can assist clients with the establishment and governance of both single and multiple family offices (as well as their expansions and contractions) in addition to providing a comprehensive and integrated legal service, both domestically and internationally.
Due to the close working relationship between our financial and legal teams, we can provide efficient and consolidated advice and assistance in areas including governance, operations and all aspects of tax-planning, fund-management and investment – including the creation of tax-efficient investment structures both on and offshore.
Additionally, we work with governments worldwide to enhance the regulatory environment for the wealth-holding structures used by family offices.
