Richard Oury

Qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1964, Richard has a wealth of professional and commercial experience. He has held positions in commerce as Chairman and Director of quoted companies and co-founded Clareville Capital Limited and the Pegasus Fund. In addition to Clareville he currently has interests in cosmetics, biotechnology, publishing, the music industry, specialist importers and property investment.

Richard has throughout his career been fully engaged in practice, combining practical knowledge of business with professional skills. He confesses to being something of a workaholic, beyond which his interests lie almost exclusively with his family, though he has been known on occasions to unite them with a love of travel, good food and wine.

Derrick qualified in 1972. He then completed two years post qualifying experience with Arthur Young (now Ernst & Young) in London. He joined Oury Clark in 1974 and was made a partner in 1977. In addition to his responsibilities as a general practice partner, he is a licensed Insolvency Practitioner and holds the Financial Planning Certificate.

Ian joined Oury Clark in 1982. Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1985, Ian specialised in tax, qualifying also as a Chartered Tax Adviser, before being invited into partnership in 1991. Ian has assisted a great number of businesses across a broad spectrum of industries, including sole traderships, professional partnerships, family companies and larger groups. Being an equity partner himself, Ian understands the pressures of running a business and uses his own life knowledge to supplement his professional experience and qualifications. In addition to his portfolio of local businesses, Ian has also assisted a large number of North American and Portuguese companies with their entry into the UK market and is a regular visitor to the east coast of America and Portugal!

Ian also regularly assists businesses undertaking investment and payment service activities within the UK and Europe. These activities range from strategic advice, applications for authorisation, ongoing regulatory compliance, supervision visits and enforcement actions.

Ian is a family man and is very much involved with family life. When he has time, Ian likes to play the occasional round of golf and, when his knees allow, he loves to play football. His more sedate pastimes include music, theatre and books.

James Oury

James is a founding partner of Oury Clark Solicitors and is strategic head of its Corporate, Commercial and Technology Practices. James is dual-qualified as a Chartered Accountant and partner in Oury Clark Chartered Accountants.

Advising companies (quoted and unquoted), shareholders and directors, James additionally draws upon his own extensive overseas business experiences in the North American and SE Asian markets.

The commercialisation of technology in the healthcare sector is a key focus with close associations with the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Imperial College.

James regularly assists businesses undertaking investment and payment service activities within the UK and Europe, with activities ranging from strategic advice, applications for authorisation ongoing regulatory compliance, supervision visits and enforcement actions.

To assist his business clients James has developed a specialism in business ethics and corporate social responsibility. He is sole author of ‘A Guide to Corporate Social Responsibility’, British Standards Institute (2007).

James was one of the architects of the firm’s pro-bono strategy which has led to the representation of death row clients worldwide and more recently represents numerous victims affected by the bombings that took place in London in 2005.

Litigation further supplements James’ business experiences with representation before the Sierra Leone War Crimes Tribunal, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights/African Commission and UN Human Rights Commission.

James is Chair of the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Committee, a member of the UK Government’s Advisory Death Penalty Panel and visiting fellow of the University of Westminster. He holds numerous directorships and trusteeships and is a member of the advisory board of the Lawyers Centre for Legal Assistance, Sierra Leone.

David Taylor Rea

Since qualifying as a chartered accountant in 1975, David has specialised exclusively in taxation. His experience and expertise in tax planning at both corporate and personal level is extensive and includes all aspects of personal tax and estate planning, remuneration planning, advice to OMBs, mergers and acquisitions, share valuations, and international and cross border issues. In addition, David has significant experience of negotiating with the Inland Revenue at the highest levels.

Much of his considerable corporate experience was gained whilst working at Grant Thornton and Arthur Andersen, after which he spent a number of years as the senior tax partner for a major London practice, advising on a broad spectrum of taxes and tax related issues. David joined Oury Clark to head up the firm’s tax practice following on his appointment as Tax Partner in 2001.

Along the way he has developed a diverse range of interests including golf, gardening, reading, horse racing and music ranging from opera to R n B. He also enjoys the odd cigar and glass of wine.

Ian joined Oury Clark in 1999, and became a partner in July 2000. He is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.

Ian heads up Oury Clark's Norwegian team - his client list includes upwards of 20 Norwegian companies and he visits Norway on average once a month. He understands (he thinks!) Norwegian business culture and appreciates the difficulties faced by Norwegian companies when establishing themselves in the UK.

Ian has assisted with around £100m of buy-side transactions over the last year or so, including advising on deal structure, taxation, due diligence and financial assistance. He also deals with a number of “larger” SME property groups, including investment companies, developers and house-builders.

Having run a practice in Gibraltar for 3½ years, Ian is well versed in commercial offshore structures, and often gets involved in tax planning using these structures.

Emma is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. She is a partner and has a background dealing and advising different sizes of businesses and individuals on various accounting and taxation matters. This includes international companies as well as UK focussed businesses. She is responsible for Finnish businesses within Oury Clark, and hence regularly travels to Finland.

In her free time, Emma is a keen tennis player, enjoys reading, cooking and eating good food!

With an interest in the field of insolvency that was already well-developed when he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1999, Elliot has concentrated almost exclusively on under-performing business ever since and is now also a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner. Elliot enjoys an outstanding reputation for his facility with the forensic aspects of insolvency work, although his commitment to the "Rescue Culture" ensures that his goal remains to ensure the survival of the business wherever possible.

When not working, Elliot is often to be found indulging his love and enjoyment of sport of many varieties, generally from a suitably comfortable vantage point. However, as a keen supporter of Manchester United he has, from time to time, been known to brave the elements for the right cause.

Aiden Williamson

Aiden is a partner in Oury Clark’s accounting and consulting practices and he heads up the firm’s corporate finance business. Prior to joining Oury Clark in October 2004, he was with Barclays for 15 years on their corporate and investment banking side.

Since joining Oury Clark, Aiden has driven the refocusing of the firm’s corporate finance activities towards predominantly buy side advisory, with expertise in environmental, private education and leisure sectors. Aiden has also directed numerous environmental assignments for the UK government’s Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP).

Aiden has a Masters Degree in Economic History and International Relations from the University of St Andrews. He is married with two children and lives in South West England.

Educated in the South East of England, Andrew studied Engineering Business Finance at University College London, qualifying in 2000.

In the same year he set up a record label (Buttercuts) and began work for Clareville Capital. In 2003, having moved on to the family firm/business, Andrew qualified as a chartered accountant, and subsequently qualified as a chartered tax advisor in 2011.

More recently Andrew has found himself increasingly involved in the branding and selling of Icelandic skincare products in the UK, these include Moa and Dr. Bragi (see www.drbragi.com for more information).

Sarah joined Oury Clark in 2001, after graduating from the University of Exeter.

She completed her ACA qualification in 2004, and qualified as a chartered tax advisor in 2005.

In 2006, she qualified as an Associate of the Institute of Indirect Taxation and now specialises in VAT and corporate taxes whilst maintaining an active interest in general practice accounting.

Sarah has a broad range of experience from small sole trader accounting upwards. She has worked closely with a large number of inward investment clients, particularly those from the US and Canada, advising on international tax issues and European group structuring, transfer pricing and cross border VAT.

Outside of work, Sarah enjoys the outdoor life, and loves to spend her free time either in her garden or in the mountains of North Wales and the Lake District. In common with her fellow partners, she is also not averse to the odd glass of wine.

Rachel joined Oury Clark in August 2006 and became a partner in 2008.

She is involved in the firm’s Corporate Finance Department, focusing on due diligence and transaction support services. Rachel is also a general accounting practitioner advising on a range of accounting and taxation aspects for SME’s, sole traders or partnerships, acting for both UK businesses and advising on inward investment clients primarily from North America, looking to establish an office in the UK. Rachel has extensive audit experience across a broad range of business sectors.

Rachel also regularly assists businesses undertaking investment and payment service activities within the UK and Europe. These activities range from strategic advice, applications for authorisation, ongoing regulatory compliance, supervision visits and enforcement actions.

She qualified as a chartered accountant in 2001 and a chartered tax advisor in 2011. She joined the world of accountancy after obtaining a BSc in food science and microbiology from the University of Surrey. Outside work, Rachel enjoys ski-ing, diving and walking as well as “glory” cooking, reading and socialising.

Having trained with Oury Clark to become a Chartered Accountant in 2006, Huw rejoined the firm following what is now affectionately referred to as “the sabbatical” in March 2007, and became a Partner in September 2009.

Huw oversees the Business Services Group (“BSG”) for the firm, dealing with their Management accounting needs and ensuring that business interests are well looked after in the UK.

Huw is also very involved in transactional work for corporate finance transactions where his Excel skills are put to good use in modelling (he hastens to add, “off-camera”) for businesses in terms of their future prospects and anticipated results. He is also a general accounting practitioner and advises on a range of accounting and taxation matters to SMEs with a particular slant towards international businesses investing into the UK.

Huw also regularly assists businesses undertaking investment and payment service activities within the UK and Europe. These activities range from strategic advice, applications for authorisation, ongoing regulatory compliance, supervision visits and enforcement actions.

Huw qualified as a Chartered Accountant following obtaining a German Degree at the University of Liverpool also in 2006. Whilst his German language skills grow ever “rustig” he still continues to enjoy a good handle on the language and seeks to put that to good use wherever he can.

When not at work, Huw is a keen participant in amateur dramatics and has been known to tread the boards with local societies to the good humour of many staff at the firm. He is also a keen cook.

Toby joined Oury Clark in 2006 after graduating from the University of California, Berkeley.

Toby is a Chartered Accountant working predominately with companies in the technology space and US companies doing business in the UK. He has a broad experience of advising new entrants to the British market on UK taxes and legislation and is following Government plans to attract new investment via attractive tax reliefs.

Toby’s sporting activities have recently become less active swapping the rowing oar and rugby ball for a set of golf clubs however he can occasionally be spotted chasing a ball on a tennis court.

Amy was born in Bahrain and lived there until she was 16, moving to the UK before starting her A-levels. Amy went to University of Manchester and read Accountancy & Finance.

Amy joined Oury Clark in 2007, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 2010. Amy continued with her studies and became a Chartered Tax Adviser in 2011.

After studying Philosophy at Leeds University, David joined Oury Clark in 2008 and qualified as a chartered accountant in 2011. From July 2012 to March 2013, David was based in Spain. David is now visiting our friends in Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Mexico, from 13th May to 19th June 2013.

Natalie Walsh

Natalie went to Imperial College London to study Physics.

In 2007, Natalie joined Oury Clark and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2010.

Natalie manages the Business Services Department within the Oury Clark Group, specialising in payroll, management accounts and VAT. When not at work she enjoys baking and occasionally testing out the cakes on her colleagues!

Tara qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2008 after graduating in 2004 with a BA honours degree in business studies from Buckinghamshire Chilterns New University.

Tara joined Oury Clark in September 2009.

Tara is a general accounting practitioner with a broad range of experience from sole trader and individual’s accounts through to SME’s and multi-national groups. She works as an assistant to Ian Friend, an equity partner at Oury Clark and has been involved with a number of his inward investment clients, particularly those from Canada and the Portugal.

Tara also regularly assists businesses undertaking investment and payment service activities within the UK and Europe. These activities range from strategic advice, applications for authorisation, ongoing regulatory compliance, supervision visits and enforcement actions.

Outside of work Tara enjoys socialising, attending music festivals and concerts all of which include drinking the odd glass of wine, counteracted by regular attendance at the gym!
