Prepare Your 2026 Accounts Before Things Get a Little Stranger Things. FRS 102 is shifting toward IFRS - revamp revenue and lease accounting now, nail July HMRC filings, and get practical guidance with us at SXSW London and London Tech Week.

Greetings Friends of Oury Clark,

For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, the updated FRS 102 standards officially come into force – but the bigger story is what they’re becoming.

Think of FRS 102 as the familiar, practical framework many UK businesses know well. IFRS, on the other hand, is its larger, more complex global cousin – heavier on judgement, disclosure and technical detail. And with the latest updates, FRS 102 is moving noticeably closer to that world.

The two biggest shifts? Revenue recognition. Under the new rules, income calculations focus less on the transfer of risks and rewards. Instead, it’s recognised based on when performance obligations are satisfied – meaning businesses need to assess what they’ve delivered, and when. For many, that introduces more judgement, complexity and potential volatility.

Then there are leases. Previously, operating leases could sit quietly off‑balance‑sheet. Now, most leases must be recognised as a right‑of‑use asset and a corresponding liability, bringing them into full view – and often increasing reported debt and assets.

So yes – it’s not quite the full transition towards an IFRS monster… but we’re moving ever so closer. And while the impact may first appear in your year ended 31 December 2026 accounts, the real work starts now.

Start early, and you stay firmly in control. If you’d like help preparing, get in touch – we’ll make sure you’re ready long before the deadlines arrive and help you stay firmly in the real world. Leave it late, and things could get a little Stranger Things.
